කොට්ටාව මහ පන්සල නමින් ප්‍රචලිත සිරි ධම්මකිත්තිකාරාම පුරාණ මහා විහාරය පිහිටා ඇත්තේ කොළඹ දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ කොට්ටාව ප්‍රදේශයේය. මෙම විහාරස්ථානය ප්‍රදේශයේ ඇති පැරණිතම විහාරස්ථානයකි. එය ආරම්භ කරන ලද්දේ 1818 දී පමණය. මෙහි ආරම්භක ස්වාමීන් වහන්සේ අතිපූජ්‍ය මහබෝගොඩ ධම්මකිත්ති ස්වාමීන් වහන්සේය.
වර්තමානයේ මෙම විහාරස්ථානය බොහෝ විහාරංගයන්ගෙන් සමන්විත වී ඇති අතර මෙහි විහාරාධිපතීත්වය දරණුයේ අතිපූජ්‍ය ඉත්තෑපාන ධම්මාලංකාර මහ නාහිමි ස්වාමීන්වහන්සේ වන අතර විහාරාධිකාරීත්වය දරණුයේ පූජ්‍ය ලේල්වල ධම්මකුසල ස්වාමීන්වහන්සේය. ප්‍රදේශයේ ජනතාවට මෙම විහාරස්ථානය මගින් සිදුකෙරෙන ආගමික සේවාවන් බොහෝ වෙති. විහාරස්ථාන දායක සමිතිය, දහම් පාසල් සංවර්ධන සමිතිය ඇතුලු බැතිමතුන්ගෙන් සමන්විත ප්‍රජාසමිති කිහිපයක් ක්‍රියාකාරීව ඉහත කී කටයුතු මෙහෙයවනු ලබයි.
මෙම ශාසනික සේවාවන් අතුරින් සුවිශේෂී මෙහෙවරක් වන ඉරුදින දහම් පාසැලේ සිසු සිසුවියන් 500ක් පමණ දහම් අධ්‍යාපනය ලබති. දහම් පාසැල සඳහා අවශ්‍ය ගොඩනැගිලි වල පවත්නා අඩුපාඩු රැසක් නිසා ඉගෙනුම ලබන සිසු සිසුවියන් මුහුන දුන් ගැටලු රාශියක් නිමාවට පත්කිරීමේ අභිලාෂයෙන් නව දෙමහල් ගොඩනැගිල්ලක් ඉදිකරමින් පවතින අතර එහි සැලසුම් කර ඇති ඉඩකඩ භාවිතයෙන් ප්‍රදේශයේ ජනතාවට විවිධ වූ සේවාවන් රැසක් ලබාදීමට අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ. එසේම මෙම විහාරස්ථානයට අනුබද්ධව වැඩිහිටි නිවාසයක් හා පෙර පාසැලක්ද පවත්වාගෙන යනු ලබයි. ඉහත කී සමාජමය හා ශාසනික කටයුතු මෙන්ම තරුණ පිරිස් සඳහා භාවනා පන්ති, සීල ව්‍යාපාර, පුස්තකාල පහසුකම්, උපදේශන සේවා ඇතුලු ක්‍රියාකාරකම් රැසක් ප්‍රජා උන්නතිය උදෙසා කැපවන ප්‍රභූවරුන්ගේ දායකත්වය මත දියත්කිරීමට ද අපේක්ෂිතයි.
Kottawa Siri Dhammakiththikarama temple well known as Kottawa Maha Pansala is located about 16km East of Colombo city near the Kottawa town, Sri Lanka. This is one of the oldest temples in the area. This temple was founded in 1818 by the Most Venerable Mahabogoda Dhammakiththi Thera.
At present the chief incumbent of Kottawa Dhammakiththikarama old temple is Most Venerable Ittapana Dhammalankara Thera and the deputy incumbent of the temple is Venerable Lelwala Dhammakusala Thera. Currently, this temple is endowed with extensive series of religious services for the benefit of the community in the area. Several civil organizations namely; Temple based Subscribers’ congregation, Female devotees’ association, Dhamma school Development Society play an active role in the implementation of services mentioned above.
Amongst the numerous religious services being performed, Dhamma school becomes a key component which focuses on almost 500 students. Main emphasis therein is to educate younger generation on Buddhist way of life. Besides, an Elders’ Home and a Pre School too, are functioning. At present, construction of two-storied building is undertaken through contributions of philanthropists mainly to surmount problems faced by children attending Dhamma School. While continuing ongoing activities for adult devotees it is also intended to increase religious functions specially for youth and adolescents in 2014 / 2015 such as Meditation classes, ‘Sil’ campaigns, Library services and Counseling sessions being key constituents, using additional spaces available in the new building.
